About Annabelle
ABOUT ME
I grew up influenced by my mother (a painter) and my step-father (a lighting designer), with a love for rules & determination (see my cadet years), and a deep love for all things comedy (you can find me on an improv stage here in Montreal most weeks /weekends I am not working). Artist, Entrepreneur, Silly Goose.
That’s the shortest version I can think of that explains a little bit about who I am, what influences me, and how I work with my clients. (if you’d like a little more, feel free to watch this interview I did a while back ago with Micheal Beaulieu).
why
My history has been informed by photographs and the albums on my family bookshelf.
I tell this anecdote of a day I helped my Grandmother quilt in her sewing room and then she stumbled on her wedding album looking for some other sewing supplies. For her, it was her past… but to me it was like getting a large piece of puzzle that I felt had been missing growing up. For me to see photographs of a family that I never knew - relatives in post-WWII in a small town in Northern England and my grandparents young, vibrant, without children, with no conception that they would one day uproot their lives and cross the Atlantic with their four children to start new lives in their forties.
It was striking historical gold.
So that’s why: we don’t understand how beautiful we are when we’re young unless we have the photographs to show us later; or how quickly our children grow up; or how little we allow ourselves to celebrate our lives. Our commitments and our celebrations are what define us and having these special moments photographed takes on new meaning over time.
This is why I take photographs.
